Telling Time Class Sessions Planning

GENERAL INFORMATION

Macrotopic: Telling Time: Dates, Months and Routines.
Grades: Fourth and Fifth Grades


Previous Knowledge:
Numbers from 1 to 12 and from 1 to 60.
Time Related Vocabulary: (in the) morning; (at) midday, noon; (in the) afternoon; (at) night; past; Quarter; to; half; o'clock; a.m (ei em) pm (pi em)

Objectives:
identify, use and learn from vocabulary related to time in English through activities such as videos, watches images, listening to pronunciation, writing and reading as well as telling time related to personal daily routines.

ACTIVITIES

1. Watching an explaining video in Spanish



2. HOT POTATO GAME

Though the game "hot potato" an opportunity to learn words related to the vocabulary is presented to students. Students also have to write the related words on the board.

3. TEACHER EXPLANATION

The teacher provides an explanation and a reflection from the video and the game. the teacher poses questions as follows:

-(in the) Morning: la mañana desde la salida del sol "sunrise" hasta el medio día.
-(at) Midday, noon: medio día
-(in the) Afternoon: la tarde, desde el medio día hasta la puesta del sol "sunset".
-(at) Night: desde la puesta del sol hasta la media noche
-At: que significa "a las" cuando se habla de horas. 
-o'clock (of the clock): "del reloj" o la hora en punto. 
-Past: "pasadas" cuando se dicen primero los minutos que hay de más de la hora.
-Half: "media", 30 minutos.
-Quarter: "cuarto", 15 minutos
-to, till: "para" cuando se dicen promero los minutos que faltan para la hora.
-AM /ei em/: antes del medio día
-AM "/Pi em/: después del medio día
-"oh": se le dice "oh" al cero cuando está entre números para facilitar su pronunciación. (para no decir "zero").
